
Mrs. Mary Ann Foster (Ma Foster), 86, Fernandina Beach, passed away on Thursday afternoon, July 6, 2017 at St. Vincent’s Riverside Hospice in Jacksonville.
She was born in Brundidge, Ala. to the late Sam and Annie M. Bacon. She has been a resident of Fernandina since the mid 1950s, here with her husband who worked as a shrimper aboard their boat, the “Peggy and Patsy.” In addition to working at the Sand Dollar and the Marina Restaurant, Mrs. Foster was known as being a mother not only to her children but also the neighborhood children. She was a volunteer with the Head Start program for many years.
She enjoyed bingo, fishing, cooking, growing roses and baseball with her children. Mrs. Foster attended Kingdom Ministries in Fernandina Beach.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Foster Sr., and a sister, Caldonia Gociar.
Mrs. Foster leaves to mourn her passing her children, Netherland F. Wilson (Thomas), Reston, Va., Fatima F. Bivens, Jacksonville, Evanell F. Roberts, Fernandina Beach, Richard Foster Jr. (Shantelle), Oneal, Fla., and Pamelia F. Fisher, Fernandina Beach; a godson, Robert Jackson Jr.; sisters, Commie C. Woods, Brundidge, Ala. and Martha Louise Pelham (Charlie), Fernandina Beach; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Her home going celebration will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard with Pastor Wardell Avant presiding. Mrs. Foster will be laid to rest beside her husband in Bosque Bello Cemetery. Her family will receive friends on 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
