Franklin Eugene Byrd, 84, went home to be with the Lord on September 5, 2017.
He was born March 24, 1933 in Odum, Ga. and moved to Yulee in 1954.
He worked picking tobacco and did pulp wooding. He also worked on a dredge boat. In 1954, he began working at Terminal Paper Bag Company as a forklift driver and retired in March 1995.
He was predeceased by his parents, Isaac L. and Mary M Byrd, three brothers, six sisters and a grandson, Chad Lang.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Peggy L. Byrd; daughters, Robin Sawyer (Hoyet) of Yulee and Lenna J. Byrd (Marvin) of Jacksonville; a brother, James Byrd of Jesup, Ga.; grandsons, Mika E. Sawyer (Becky) and Mark A Sawyer (Megan), both of Yulee; great-grandchildren, Shelby Sawyer, Maci Sawyer, Reese Sawyer and Maddison Lang; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He loved hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and woodworking. Most of all, he loved talking and playing with his grandsons and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017, at Blackrock Baptist Church with Pastor John Kasper officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Cathedral Care, 333 Ashley St., Jacksonville, FL 32202.
