Charles D. Mazurek, 85, formerly of Hartford, Conn., passed away peacefully of natural causes on November 3, 2017 after a long illness in Fernandina Beach, Fla.
Charlie was a great athlete with an infectious smile. He was voted all-state basketball at Bulkeley High School and was inducted into the Hall of Fame for both Bulkeley and Trinity College, where he played three sports. In the summer months, he played for the Cubs baseball team in the twilight league.
Charlie worked for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, Hamilton Standard and Spaulding Fiber. After working his way up to national sales manager at Dart Industries, Charlie retired from a successful career in 1987 to Amelia Island, Fla.
He is survived by his loving wife and high school sweetheart of 65 years, Joyce Flydal. He leaves behind his sister, Bernice Harmon; his daughter, Susan Francis of Williamsburg, Va., and his son, Steven Mazurek of Mesa, Ariz. He also leaves three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren – all boys.
