Mr. Eugene H. (Hank) Levering, 86, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., passed away Friday, June 1, 2018, at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla.
Born in Scranton, Pa., he was the son of the late Barton Clifford and Mildred Elizabeth (Dusenberry) Levering and grew up in Upper Arlington, Ohio and Plymouth, Mich.
Mr. Levering served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a proud graduate of the University of Michigan and remained active in the alumni association for most of his adult life. He worked for the Noxell Corporation and subsequently for Procter and Gamble, retiring as senior vice president of sales during the time that the Cover Girl brand was developed and flourished.
Hank was an avid golfer and sports fan and played on both the basketball and golf teams during his stint in the Army.
Having vacationed at Amelia Island Plantation during its early years, he and his wife initially purchased property there in 1980 and later built their dream home there following his retirement. Hank and his wife loved to travel and were fortunate to have the opportunity to do so throughout the world over the last 30 years.
His surviving family includes his son, E. H. Levering III and daughter-in-law Sally of Palmetto Bay, Fla.; a grandson, Clifford Jarvis Levering of Palmetto Bay; and a granddaughter, Lauren Marie Levering of Pasadena, Calif.
The family invites you to a reception to celebrate Hank’s life 4:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the Sea Oats restaurant in Amelia Island Plantation’s Ocean Club.
If so desired, donations in Hank’s name to the University of Michigan would be preferred. Donations can be made online at leadersandbest.umich.edu/tributes (page down to the link under his name).
