Leo R. McCormack

Leo R. McCormack (affectionately known as Gramps), 87, passed away Thursday evening, July 6, 2017.

He was born March 1, 1930 in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. and moved to Fernandina Beach in 1973 from Jacksonville.

Mr. McCormack spent a portion of his life as a merchant marine and was a veteran of the U. S. Army.  He earned his associate degree from Santa Fe Community College.

He loved the Florida Gators football team, was fluent in Spanish, enjoyed scuba diving and watching soccer. He was a collector of artifacts and made several presentations at the Amelia Island Museum of History. Mr. McCormack also enjoyed exercising and riding his bicycle. He loved his family, all types of animals and especially his cat, "Kitty."

He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Shirley T. McCormack, who passed away in 2012.

Survivors include two sons, Richard McCormack and James McCormack; a daughter, Jayne Burbank (David); two granddaughters, Lisa D. Jones (Chester) and Michelle Jaynes (Chad); and four great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Alex, Chad and C. J.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, in the Stephens Chapel at Green Pine Funeral Home with Pastor Rob Goyette officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Military honors will be provided by the U. S. Army.
